Scooter Component Modeling
(Spring 2022)
Full SOLIDWORKS Model of Scooter
Project
Take a real-world object and re-create a 3D model of it in SOLIDWORKS, including GD&T drawings
Trick scooter, consisting of 9 major components, to be fully recreated with aid of calipers, rulers, and protractors
Contributions
Meticulously record dimensions of each major component of the real model
Research online postings of dimensions to substitute for a lack of measurement devices
30+ hours in SOLIDWOKS computing geometries, troubleshooting, and assembling such that the bars and wheels move as intended
Expanded Assembly of Full Scooter Model
Real-World Trick Scooter Used for Modeling
Results
Presentation of completed model with renderings, moving parts, and learnings
Gained skills creating a mock-up based off of measurements- product development
Assisted in progress towards CSWA certification
Key Learnings: Some geometries are too complex to dimension by hand without the aid of machinery, leaving it impossible to perfectly recreate. With the fork component, the geometry around the wheel area is too complex, leaving the modeling to be based only on visual accuracy. With proper machinery, a much more accurate model of a real-life object would be able to be constructed.
